Working in the art forms of textile, painting, sculpture, performance, and video, Zadie Xa takes the elements surrounding and enveloping her personal life and conjures them up into beautiful, complex, and intensely unique art. Almost all of her pieces work with one another quite well as different textile works make appearances in videos and performances as costumes. Xa’s wearable art (perhaps her most iconic collection of pieces) doubles as utilitarian and displayable as it can be hung and presented quite beautifully in the gallery setting. To make these pieces the artist uses a range of materials including recycled fabric cut into significant shapes and patterns as well as things such as strands of synthetic wigs. Currently based in London, Zadie Xa shows incredible amounts of promise and potential as she inspires artists to think differently and push boundaries through their own personal symbols in a completely unapologetic manner.
