Born in 1982, London-based artist Matthew Stone has created a diverse oeuvre of painting, photography, performance, writing, and – most recently – digital media, as he has become a leading figure in the counter-culture of his city. He played a critical role in the organization of !WOWOW!, a squat-art artist collective that was portrayed as a multi-authored work of art. In his most recent work, Stone has continued to delve into the relation between painting and the human form. He uses CGI techniques to manipulate abstract brushstrokes to the figures in his compositions. This process both forgoes painting and pushes the medium to new limits at the same time. Matthew Stone’s digital paintings also hold different themes and leave the inevitable interpretation of meaning up to the viewer. The artworks are somewhat chaotic and unfinished, yet hold an enticing beauty. Are the figures meant to be in a constant state of change? Or is this their final form? See for yourself below!
