Sarah Sitkin’s strikingly life-like sculptures

Los Angeles artist Sarah Sitkin creates hyperrealistic yet surreal sculptures of parts of the human form. She creates her bizarre creations using primarily silicone, clay, plaster, resin, and latex. Siskin uses her techniques to at times come as close to reality as possible, accounting for every color change and detail while sometimes using bizarre colors or extreme distortions to create a surreal environment for the viewer. Much of her work displays the grotesque and the alien in a way that pulls us in closer to her work. We know it’s not a real head because of distortion, but it looks so real that one searches for an explanation of whether or not there is a live model involved in artwork. Sarah Sitkin’s work has been featured recently in a music video for the electronic band, Purity Ring, for which she created what appears to be a skin covered fruit of some sort with hairs sprouting from its end. See a sample of her masterful sculptures below!
