Born in the city of Kinshasa in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Eddy Ilunga Kamuanga uses bright acrylic paints to depict an African society of mixed styles and themes. His work seems to be somewhat influenced by advertising and fashion art and photography. It slams together the contrasting cultures found prevalent in urban society in Africa with the bright traditional patterns and the technologies of a new age putting the artist’s possible experiences with culture into a microcosm in a painting. Eddy has proven to be a versatile and persevering artist despite the stereotypes of the society that has surrounded him throughout his life as he has recently set up an artist collective whose purpose is to aim to give voice to the hopes and desires of the artists and people for a bright future.
