Born in ’83, painter Joram Roukes currently works in his studio in Groningen, the Netherlands. He focuses his energies to his career as an internationally recognized artist displaying his analysis on tidbits of western culture and narrow-mindedness. He has worked in New York before as an artist but prefers the small city of Groningen in his home country because of the cheap rent so he can focus all his efforts on being a full-time professional artist instead of having to work dead-end jobs to get from one day to the next. Roukes believes that as people, we end up in situations that we don’t want to be in because we’re always bombarded with so many options and decisions to make. The artist’s paintings use a variety of symbols to show different aspects of an individual and a situation, accurately displaying the ambiguity of almost every feature in our lives and personalities.
