San Francisco based artist Zio Ziegler’s work is one of self-understanding. His aim is to create an experience for the viewer that parallels his own search of creation. The bizarre colors and shapes within Ziegler’s familiar and highly repeated humanoid forms give the sense that there is something beautiful and strange and crazy within each one of us that is not easy to understand but is our natural state no matter who we are. The artist believes that true art simply allows the natural state to come through. As far as technique goes, Zio uses bright and geometric patterns that immediately catch the eye and generate curious searches of the figure in all its divided sections. He also usually uses paint strokes to create outlines that appear to be in the human form or slightly more realistic versions of his characters to give his paintings and murals more structure and context. Zio Ziegler is constantly trying to improve his work and expresses frustration at finishing a piece because he wants to repaint it every time. However, he states, “The greatest artists learn something new everyday.” Check out his work below!
