Ellen Carey is an artist with a plethora of work (I have never spent so much time going through an artist’s website finding the images I wanted to feature) as she creates many pieces for each experimental process that she develops. She really is an example to any artist trying to find their niche in the complex and ever-expanding art world because once she has a formulated idea she does it in almost every possible way, always exploring. Carey’s work creates somewhat of a contradiction in that it is abstract lens-based photography. Photography has always been revered for its ability to capture realism and she uses it to create just the opposite. The artist has been producing her artwork for a long time and discovered several new methods of creating art in that time. Her stretched-looking pieces were created by a method she calls the Pull which are simultaneously photograph and process. See a good sample of her work below!
